What I learned1

During this competition I have learned a variety of things such as: improving my writing skills, how to add links to my blogs, about other people’s life, and poverty. I feel like it has become easier to write for me. At the beginning  of this competition it would take me 20 minutes to write 1 paragraph long  post and now it takes me 15 minutes to write a 3 paragraph long post. Also every week in my Language Arts class we write an essay and lately I have been getting 5’s and 6’s which is much better than the 3’s I got before. My reading skills have also improved a lot because we also get assigned these online stories called FOCUS and it’s where you read a story and answer 5 questions; well now I can read the story faster and understand it better which leads me to get better grades. I feel like I am going to do much better in my FCAT at the end of the year.

My typing skills I have improved a tremendous amount. I can type much faster without making mistakes. In my computer class everyday we go on custom typing and it tells us our words per minute and how many words we got wrong and the percentage. Lately I have gotten more 90%’s, higher typing speeds and fewer mistakes. After you have done a couple of exercises you get a typing test where you have to type as fast and accurate as you can; I never do well in it but I finally passed.

Lastly, I have learned about other people’s life and how they live. Like I have read that other kids get their immunization shots in their schools instead of them going into a doctor’s office and getting it there. I have also learned that kids all over the world like Halloween as their favorite celebration. Another thing worth mentioning is that many kids have posts about Obama and MaCain and who they prefer. Also, I have learned about how countries around the world are tying to save the earth. In a blog I read I learned that people are encouraging others to fish less; so we don’t run out of fish and so are coral reefs are not destroyed. No doubt about it, I have learned a lot of things throughout this competition.

Some statistics about my blog are:  I have written 10 post, 20 comments, and 69 people have visited my page and 4 different countries have visited my blog, and I have 8 widgets . My best post is the Halloween post. It is good to write with a world wide audience because, you write better because you know the world is reading your blog and you don’t want to make a mistake.

International year of the Planet Earth 20080

So what is the international year of planet earth 2008? Well let me start of by telling you that it starts from January 2007 to December 2009. It was said that the year 2008 was the year of the planet by; United Nations General Assembly.  The goal of this event is to reduce the risks for the world’s inhabitants to make sure more effective use by the society’s knowlage gained by scientist over the years. It also aims to raise $20 million dollars to spend half on “outreach” and the other half on co-founding research.  So who is behind this anyway? Well the people allowing this to happen are UNSESCO, the international Union of Geological Sciences, 12 founding partners, 26 asscosiate partners , a growing number of International Partners and ober 70 countries.

It also is funding for projects to the government  worldwide and programmes. The programmes has 10 themes: health, climate, groundwater, oceans, soils, deep Earth, megacities, hazards, resources, and life. There are brochures on each theme that can be downloaded from the Planet Earth website.  As you can see in the picture above almost the entire world is helping participate in this event.

The reason why I choose to do this topic is because, it is interesting to see how the whole world comes together to help the planet. Also, because it shows that people do care about Earth, and that they are trying to improve it. This topic relates to  me because I care about the earth and I recycle:)  only me, but it also effects the whole world aswell. I got my pictures and information from the International year of the planet website, wikipedia, and from the link im ms.wyatt’s page

Recycle!2

Many people recycle in different ways, my family and I recycle our milk bottles instead of throwing them away. We also throw the paper we don’t want in our recycling bin and every Tuesday and Friday the garbage truck comes and takes our recycled things and puts them with other people’s recycled stuff to make new products. Another thing we do is when we are done drinking a bottle of water we fill it up again and then after a couple of days we recycle them. My school has a recycling program where the kids put their unwanted papers in the recycling bin.

3 comments1

This weeks activity was to pick 3 blogs that you liked and comment them, I choose Ryan’s, Conner’s, and Max’s page to leave a comment on because they had really cool post. I choose to comment Ryan’s post about the things in his house because a lot of his objects were from different countries, and it seemed like a post that no one seemed to have. The reason I commented Connor’s blog is because you can tell that Connor loves his cats a lot, and I think it is sweet of him to write a post about his pets. I choose to comment on this post  on Max’s page because, it relates to me and other kids a lot. I feel the same way Max feels before you get a shot, and it was interesting reading the fact that in his school they give the immunizations in school not in the doctors office.

“Trick or Treat!”7

Halloween is a celebration for all age’s (kids, teenagers, adults, elderly) It is held October 31 during the night time. No matter what age you are or what you decide to do in Halloween we all have one thing in common, we all dress up as something we like. In America little kids usually go outside with their friends and knock on doors and say “Trick or Treat!” Then they go home and dump their bag loads of candy on the table and eat it all until their stomachs explode.  Teenagers and adults do the same thing, they go outside and trick or treat with their friends and scare the younger kids, stay at home and wait for tricker treaters to knock on their door and pass out the candy, or have a Halloween party. While Trick o’ treating people go from door to door in their neighborhood until they have knocked on every door and their bags are seconds from ripping.

Halloween is celebrated in many different countries.  Elderly people usually stay trick or treaters to knock on their doors. People buy or use their old Halloween decorations from previous years to make their home as scary as possible. Sometimes when you knock on a door and the person inside opens the door, they try to scare you, but it only works on younger kids.  Just like in Christmas they use Christmas trees, reindeers, and Santa clause pictures to represent the holiday? Well in Halloween they use pumpkins, witches, jack-o-lanterns, and ghost.

If I had to choose a holiday to celebrate it would be Hanukkah also called the festival of lights. Hanukkah because you get 1 present for 8 days. Everyday you light a new candle to the menorah (candelabrum) until you have lighted all 8. Hanukkah is commemorating the rededication of the Second Temple

Causes of Poverty1

What causes poverty?

Most of this is caused by the global decisions, and are drive, formulated, caused by the rich and powerful countries, or multinational corporations, institutions, and influential people. Instead of spending money on children’s education, they spend it on weapons.

According to the global issue site

- Over 3 billion people, live on less than $2.50 a day.
-1 out of 2 billion children lives in poverty.
-640 million live without decent home.
-400 million have no access to safe water.
-270 million have no access to health services.

How does education help lift people out of poverty?

When the kids that live in poverty go to school and have a chance to learn they become more aware of the school work than the fact that they might have nothing to eat that day. It keeps them entertained.

What can students do to help poverty?

Students can encourage adults to donate money, or to sign up in the unique organization. They can write letters asking to help people out in Africa.

What is school and student life in poorer countries?

Students life in poorer countries is horrible, most of them don’t even have the opportunity to go to school because they have to go look for food in the garbage to be alive.  They wear the same shirt and pants for about a year or two and would be lucky to have a pair of socks or shoes.  They have no medicines, which causes most of them to be very sick.

Avatar?0

How does my avatar represent me?

My avatar represents me because it is the way I dress on a casual day. The hair is how I wear it most of the time. My eyes, and skin tone is the closest color I could find to me. If you were to open my closet you would find tons of jeans and sneakers and t-shirts, and that is how my avatar represents me.

Week 12

Why did you choose this theme for your blog?

When I was scrolling down this layout caught my eye. The reason I choose this blog theme is because it was simple and organized much like me. Everything is very easy to find. I love the color purple, the way the layout is set up is very calm and peaceful which is the main reason I choose this layout.

Have you looked at some others?

Yup. I looked at all of them, and this one was the best. It does not have bright neon colors and it’s simple and pretty.

What does your tagline say about your blog?

My header is live, laugh; love, because it shortens out my life in 3 simple words.  I love laughing with my friends and love to live my life to the fullest
